Panetta Scared of Marines! Rick Santorum's Ignorance!

By Reginald Kaigler (DEMCAD)

Reality Check

U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta recently arrived in Afghanistan to give a speech in front of a group of marines. Apparently, his staff was spooked when a truck drove onto the airfield and exploded. The driver ended up engulfed in flames, but no one else was harmed. This came days after a U.S. soldier went massacred 16 Afghan civilians (mostly women and children). Panetta's staff required that the marines be disarmed for the speech, which likely offered nothing of importance to the soldiers. Can someone explain to me why it's a good idea for marines to be disarmed in a war zone? And if the Secretary of Defense is afraid of his own soldiers, what's the point of giving a speech in the first place?

The soldier who snapped and murdered those Afghans apparently had three deployments in Iraq, hated the idea of going to Afghanistan, recently watched a friend lose a leg and was clearly in distress. Now, I'm in no way attempting to justify his actions. Plenty of soldiers have two kids and are going through similar circumstances, but we have to be honest with ourselves. Wars are no meant to last nine years. You set your goals and get the hell out. The politicians in D.C. have obviously failed to do so.

Fool of the Week

Rick Santorum, the so called social conservative running for President, has been recently noted for attacking Internet porn. Saying that if he is elected, he would “vigorously” enforce laws that “prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier.”

So much for free speech. But let me get this right. We are currently in the worse economic decline since the Great Depression with 46.5 million people on food stamps and this guy is ranting about Internet and birth control. This is the epitome of ignorance.
